Who we are
Filenilla publishes free educational guides about FTP, FTPS, and SFTP at https://filenilla.com. It is an independent site, not the FileZilla project. There is no customer account and no published street address. Questions about this policy go to [email protected].
What you can do without giving information
You can read the guides and use the troubleshooter without signing in. The troubleshooter runs in your browser. The protocol and problem you select are not sent to Filenilla and are not saved for a later visit. The pages do not use browser storage for that tool.
The pages do not include analytics, advertising, or social-media tracking. Cookies are described in the cookie policy.
The contact form
If you send a question from the contact page, Filenilla receives your name, email address, the topic you chose, and your message. When the message is delivered, the email also includes the time of the submission and the IP address the web server associated with it. That address is included so repeated or abusive submissions can be recognized. It is not used to build a marketing profile.
Please do not include passwords, private keys, or other confidential account details. The form asks you to leave them out, and a message that contains a private key is rejected. Describe the error in your own words instead.
Messages that appear to be automated, including a submission that fills a field people are asked to leave blank, are rejected and are not delivered.
Email delivery and service providers
The question is sent as an ordinary email to [email protected]. Your email address is included so a reply can be sent to you. Filenilla does not copy the message into a separate database.
The hosting provider serves the pages. It may process technical connection data, such as an IP address, the date, the page requested, and the browser, in ordinary server logs so the site can operate and be protected. The email service used by the host carries the contact message to the Filenilla inbox and processes it for that delivery. This page does not name those companies. They are not asked to use the information for Filenilla advertising.
A notice that the message was accepted means the server handed it to email delivery. It does not mean the message has been read, and it does not promise a reply or a response time.
Limits on repeated messages
The server keeps a short record so the form cannot be submitted over and over from the same network connection. The record holds recent times, not the text of your message, and it is removed after about an hour. It stays on the server. It is not a cookie and it is not stored in your browser.
How long information is kept
Filenilla does not keep contact messages for a fixed number of days or years. A delivered message stays in the [email protected] mailbox until it is deleted. Deletion can happen because you asked for it, because the question no longer needs to be kept, or because the mailbox is cleared. There is no separate retention calendar.
The short record used to limit repeated submissions lasts about an hour. Logs and backup copies kept by the hosting provider or the email service follow that provider’s own practice. Filenilla does not set those periods and does not use the logs for advertising.
Filenilla does not sell contact information and does not share it with an advertising network.
Children
The guides are written for adults who use file-transfer accounts. The site is not directed at children, and the form should not be used to send information about a child.
Your requests
You may email [email protected] to ask for access to the personal information in a contact message, to ask for a correction, or to ask that the message be deleted. Filenilla will consider the request under the law that applies. A request can be carried out for a message that is still in the mailbox. Information that a hosting or email provider keeps in its own logs may remain for as long as that provider keeps it.
This page does not remove a right the applicable law gives you. It also does not create a response deadline or a legal registration the site does not have.
Changes
If the way the form or the site handles information changes, this page will be updated. The date at the top of the page is the date of the current version.
